So it looks like a Mr Pujols has stuck his cleated foot in his mouth.

Someone got a little snippy in 2006 when Ryan Howard won an MVP. I’m wondering if this means he’ll give it back? I mean, surely he must know that he doesn’t deserve it, right? Speaking of the Cardinals, I found out last night while reading a few pages out of the history of baseball book that the design on the Cards’ uniforms with the two birds, was created by a guy back in the day named Branch Rickey, and came from a design on a church’s stained glass window. If I read the book correctly on Rickey’s history, he was apparently a terrible ball player, but an excellent manager/organizer, and was responsible for getting St Louis a farm system and sort of pushing that concept to the rest of baseball. Probably common knowledge for most baseball fanatics, but I’m new, sue me. I have been finding it difficult to find time to read, so it’s been a few pages at a time until I get too tired to hold the book. I need to get away from work during lunch more often and put some earnest effort into it.

News overnight (I’ve been trying to keep tabs on things like a hawk – a sleepy, sleepy hawk) apparently reads that the Oakland A’s bench coach is going to be our next manager, while mariners.com specifically stipulates that they’re still trying to take care of background checks on everyone. I find myself wanting the guys from the Red Sox camp, and frankly, I feel a little wrong for it.

Joe Woerman did not comply with my request for a photo of his adopted kitten Mr Pickles on his blog. He did, however, get nabbed with a speeding ticket and warned everyone of the potential dangers of speeding in the state of Arizona. Having driven through AZ several times, I can say that it is definitely easy to floor it; flat highways and a clear view of what’s in front of you are the little shoulder-devil that says “do it!”. I hope this is not the last post we’ll see from Joe. I’m sure that even minor leaguers have exhaustingly busy schedules, but I do enjoy being able to read about baseball from the player’s perspective in the off-season. I keep remembering that there is a torturous 3 more months left before Spring Training starts, and then over a month more before the actual season.
