Looks like some Britons (or at least one of them) are a little indignant that the phrase “step up to the plate” is becoming slightly more frequently used in the common vernacular across the pond. I think these guys might agree with me when I say get over it; it’s really not worth getting one’s knickers in a twist over. The author of the article refers to the trend as “distressing”. I can think of a lot more important things to be distressed over. Maybe I’m just a little more laid-back than that; if someone here used the phrase “sticky wicket”, I certainly wouldn’t feel any way that I would categorize as “distressed”. I wouldn’t even be “annoyed”, “irked” or “bothered”. What a funny thing to get upset about.
Now, the top 10 Mariners wins are on FSN for the next 30 minutes, so I’m going to watch it. Number 10 is a Red Sox game in June of ’07 where JJ pitched extra innings; I’m pretty sure that was the game I first started paying attention because of.
