I just got a Twitter message from Jason at MyOhMyMariners and CoffeeShopChat that the dates for 2010 FanFest have just been announced. YES! There is no hot dog that tastes better than that first SafeCo Field hot dog out in the cold, cold weather of January. Walking the bases, seeing the clubhouse, listening to the guys talk over the first baseline, none of that ever gets old for me. I will be holding off on getting tickets for a while, at least until I figure out what’s happening with school and whether or not I need to/can get a job, but I’m definitely going. Depending on who is on the player/guest list, I may go both days.
News is pretty quiet today. The only thing of merit I’ve been able to find is the current rumor that Eddie Guardado plans to continue on in 2010. Doesn’t look like he’ll be with Texas, but maybe an NL team might have a spot for him, as the first responder there suggests. Other than that, nothing on either Mariners or ex-Mariners. Derek Zumsteg posted some ruminations on bringing back Jarrod Washburn, and I found out that M’s prospect Ryan Royster is on Twitter now, so there’s something to check out.
Other bits of note over the weekend include Dustin Ackley’s move to second base (from being an outfielder), and some whispers on the wind of the Tigers/Mariners trade talks stalling – and we’re more interested in Edwin Jackson than Curtis Granderson?! What?! The New York Mets have also given a call (this was literally just posted on the MLBTR website) in regards to Russell Branyan.
So very little solid news, but the FanFest announcement makes up for it.
