I’m late on the draw due to sleeping in and waiting for the other half of this saga, but after spending his career thus far in Anaheim, Chone Figgins is now a Seattle Mariner. Baseball Tonight already showed a photo of his player photo with the obligatory hat change Photoshopped on (the show is somewhat dull, but I’m watching it anyway – highlight reels are better than nothing)…There is some other talk of Adrian Beltre being not-quite-gone, but I don’t expect that to actually happen…but maybe I should, because that would be the sort of thing Jack Zduriencik would pull, this year’s surprise move. I’m not going to hold my breath, but getting Beltre back would indeed be a shocker. A very sweet shocker.
Looks like we’re out of the running for Curtis Granderson as well, but that doesn’t really surprise me. Granderson wound up in New York, while his trade counterpart, Edwin Jackson, is going to Arizona to be a DBack.
Other notes from the day so far:
- Boof Bonser was designated for assignment by the Minnesota Twins. I don’t know why, but I always find the DFA a little sad. Also, Booooooof!
- Peter Gammons is leaving ESPN after the winter meetings, so they say. I have not been around sports long enough to fully understand, but I am under the heavy impression that Gammons was quite a force at the network, so the sports world is more sad for his loss. As I write this post, he’s on Baseball Tonight getting a little choked up about his departure. He’s apparently going on a tour of Bangladesh with some band? Crazy.
- Mark McGwire was hired by the St Louis Cardinals as a hitting coach. Let the jokes begin…
- Just Tweeted from Tim Brown at Yahoo is a possible Carlos Silva for Milton Bradley trade? I’ll be spending the day picking all of my jaw off the floor if that happens, because I’m pretty sure my head would explode, and not in a good way.
