More disaster

So it’s been verified. Carmen Fusco has been fired (that link contains an interesting story, for those of you who attended the blogger event that occurred a while back, the one that was held in the downtown branch of the Seattle Library). Before starting to regularly attend the USS Mariner/Lookout Landing events, I never had a true understanding of exactly how much the scouting department of a baseball team can determine that teams’ success or failure. I was more concerned with becoming more familiar with the game itself, so managers, coaches, anything front office or not players was of no concern to me. With the hiring of Jack Zduriencik and the subsequent reorganization of our scouting department, I started to take more notice, and I think others did, too. Two years after the restructuring of the general management and scouting departments, 8 of this team’s 9 minor league affiliates have made it into playoff situations. Today, we lost a major piece of that puzzle. I have faith in Zduriencik and company to find a suitable replacement, but this move just makes no sense to me.

I received a call this morning from my friend Jim, offering me two lower deck tickets to tonight’s game. He couldn’t go due to pre-vacation preparations, so he’ll be here in a bit to drop them off. I know I’m walking into a hornet’s nest of Red Sox Nation, and I’m prepared to lose (though the presence of Doug Fister on the hill for us gives me a teeny bit of hope), but a free game is a free game, and Tom hasn’t been to SafeCo yet this year. Will we get win #56, or loss #89? Will Adrian Beltre get booed by Mariners fans again? Will I have to punch some kid for calling him a traitor? Stay tuned…

Agree with your comments re: Carmen Fusco. I don’t get it either. The minor league teams seem to be doing pretty well, which should bode well for the M’s future. Unfortunately, the upper management of the M’s seems to be in a CYA mode, and am kinda worried about Captain Jack.

Free tickets and free merch! Ai caramba, you ought to start buying lottery tickets. 🙂

Well, the bobblehead I requested at the blogger event, and the tickets were just pure luck. A lot of my friend work for software companies or larger places that get tickets, so if they can’t make it, they always know that I’ll go. I’ve lucked out a few times this year that way. 🙂 I’ve bought lottery tickets, so far it has only yielded about $15. haha!
