Because the game I went to last Friday was such a disappointment, I never bothered posting photos or anything – but I did take a few. I thought it might be nice to switch things up a bit and have another crop of familiar names on Seattle soil – some for the first time, some again.
Some of our next generation, leaning up on the bar. The Rainiers played out of the visitor’s dugout for some reason. Even in Cheney Stadium, the home dugout was on the first base side of the field, so I’ m not sure why they chose this dugout.
Josh Lueke, left, and Dan Cortes, on the reserve squad for the evening, kick at each other’s feet as lineups are being announced and brought out. There was an impression that it was a pre-game ritual for some of the guys.
Tug Hulett stands for the National Anthem. I was aware that some fans had nicknamed him “Tuglett”, but figured it was just an easy amalgam of his first and last names. Turns out Hulett is kind of a small guy – the Rainiers roster has him listed as 5’10”. I had no idea, even when he was up here before.
Levale Speigner, trying to save a little of our dignity in the 9th inning. It didn’t work, but of course by now everyone knows that Tacoma won the PCL Championship, and has now moved on to play the Memphis Redbirds in the finals. As of today, they’ve taken both of the two games they’ve played. The series resumes tonight with the Redbirds being the home team.
Tonight also sees the Mariners back in Seattle for a three-game series with the Texas Rangers. It’s Felix Hernandez against CJ Wilson. Sadly, I’ve noticed a distinct drop-off in people wishing each other Happy Felix Day this year, and it bums me out. Just another facet of this season. I have a bunch of other stuff I want to address here, but the fact is that the weather in Seattle has been and will continue to be gray, a bit colder, and just depressing – it’s like we went straight from summer to winter- and I don’t need to be more of a downer. So happy Friday, happy Felix Day, and go Mariners, go Rainiers!
