Dear Cleveland…

This is ridiculous. With the billions of dollars running through the veins of major league baseball, no games should ever be called for rain. Get a roof, or some plastic sheeting, or pay some hobos to build a cover out of furniture sale signs or something, but enough with rain delays. This is 2011, not 1925.

Yours sincerely,

Not having the game on yesterday was semi-convenient, because it did allow me to watch the Sounders and Timbers battle their way into a draw, but my whole day today was planned around baseball today, and the weather in Cleveland has taken that away from me. And it doesn’t look like the Indians have another series here this season, so any makeup games will likely occur there. So not only has the rain in the midwest caused me to miss two games on TV, it will also rob me of being able to see a double header here in Seattle.

Tomorrow night, at least we know that a game will be played rain or shine. Preferably shine at some point soon, because I’m getting far too sick of this weather. Good for my yard, not great for being able to do anything outside the house. Excited to see how the Ms do on two days of rest, glad to be going to a game this week, and it looks like it’s going to be nice weather for it. Looks like Wednesday is also a Doug Fister start, and I’ve been wanting to get some photos of him warming up, so that day should be especially fun.

If you want Fister Fotos, sneak out for lunch Thursday… because of the rainout, everyone got pushed back a day. So the Twins “series” is Pineda and Felix, and the Angels is Vargas and Fister.

Ah, hell – you’re right. I started hearing about the lineup push, and knew that something was “wrong”, but I’ve been kind of out of it all day, so it didn’t dawn on me. I’ll live with Vargas.

I was complaining about how no city with regular downpours like that shouldn’t have a roof and my mom came up with a novel suggestion. If your field gets rained out, the makeup games should be played at the opposing team’s field OR you suffer a forfeit. What do you think??

    • Megan Shear says:

I wouldn’t have a problem with that, but I think the logistics for travel are not that simple, unfortunately.
What I think needs to happen is that player salaries need to take a hit so that this doesn’t happen – clubs complain that they don’t have enough money to pay for a venue where games can be a sure thing, but they’re paying these guys so much…I’m sure that idea would get arguments from purists, but in this day and age, with so much money and fans who come in from out of town to see games, and ESPECIALLY now with the economy and these teams struggling for attendance, this should be made a bit of a priority in the rainier states, at the very least.
