So this is a thing that might be happening soon at a baseball game:
Many thanks to Miri Diaz at Aerys Sports for her recent compare and contrast post about home run celebrations. Words fail me, so I’ll let the video speak for itself.
The Tigers just barely managed to eke out a win tonight in Detroit. Normally, I’d wax philosophic about how much I love the whole David and Goliath fight in baseball, how the Tigers struggling against the Texas Rangers is a battle I’m excited to see, and how much I’m backing the Tigers because that’s how I roll with baseball, the underdog, etc. But for some reason I’m just not feeling it anymore. The Tigers came dangerously close to losing their grip on a victory today, thanks to Phil Coke allowing two hits and a walk after getting two outs. Terrifying. Would I be saying the same thing if the Mariners were in that position? Probably not. But I think that with all the heartbreak that baseball has caused me in the postseason (Diamondbacks gone, Phillies gone) maybe this is my way of trying to slowly separate myself from baseball in preparation for the long winter ahead. Now the Tigers have to go back to Arlington and basically win two more games. And to be brutally honest here, I don’t think they can do it. I hate feeling like that, and I hate feeling like I’m giving up on the game already, before the season really truly ends, but the teams that are still in it just hold no interest for me. And I can’t get that into individual players on any of the other three teams to the extent that things are still going to keep my attention if the Tigers don’t win these next two games.
It’s also entirely possible that I simply miss the Mariners already, and am not looking forward to the next 5 months.
I have been told that my new laptop will ship tomorrow. Then begins the arduous process of getting all my links back, transferring all my photos, and starting from scratch. But I shouldn’t have to worry about things for a while, and that will be nice.
I am also interested in doing a new regular feature here, so if there are any ideas, feel free to toss them my way. I have a few rolling around in my noggin, but haven’t decided anything concrete yet.
Now, onto the Brewers/Cardinals game. Begrudgingly, of course.
