Because of work and traveling out to see some friends this weekend, I have missed the first halves of the last three games. I can tell you what, though; we should have won the last three games. Terrible fielding in Texas on Wednesday with a one-run game, and what appeared to be zero control of his pitches on the part of Fernando Rodney. And on Felix Day, even! Felix has been given more support lately, but it always feels like par for the course when we lose one when he pitches. I have no idea what happened on Thursday. Robinson Cano and Corey Hart even hit home runs, we kept a reasonable hitting pace with the Rangers 10-12, and still lost by two runs.
And then we get to yesterday. I’ve seen the Marlins play, folks. In person, against both the Nats and the Phillies. Their managing was awful, their hitting even worse, and their defense was questionable at best. We should not have given a freaking grand slam to the Miami Marlins last night. There is simply no way we should have lost that game. And yet here we are. My friend Jesse and I sat on the couch, choice swears pouring out of us, disbelieving what we had just seen. Yoervis Medina went from getting Jeff Baker to strike out swinging and Adeiny Hechavarria to line out in the bottom of the 8th, to giving up two singles, being involved in an error via Kyle Seager, and sending an 85MPH curveball right where Giancarlo Stanton needed to smack it over the wall. Total collapse, in the space of 20 pitches. So frustrating. I am hoping for better results today, but we have managed to knock ourselves down to fourth place with a 7-9 record. This isn’t much fun, but so far it’s pretty Mariners.
In other news, it looks like Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado literally knocked the cover off the ball the other day. Click on that link for a pretty funny throwing .gif. Brought to you by a guy with a near-Mendoza batting average. Weird things happen nearly every day in this game, that is why I love it.
More Orioles pictures on their way, as soon as I can. Also need to download videos, now that I have a far superior internet connection. Waiting for the game to start at noon, and for my friends to wake up and make me some coffee. I needed a vacation from my vacation, so I plan to do as little as possible this weekend, but as always, baseball will be involved.
