I woke up to a wonderfully sunny day this morning, which is great because I’ve taken the day off to take Tom to the hospital so a specialist can check out the hairline fracture he incurred while playing a show in Germany about two weeks ago. Not great for him, but I have been wanting a day off with nice weather for a while now, so I’m feeling pretty pleased about being awake and ready to get on with it. To that end, I wanted to post some pictures of a Mariners win on a nice day, and when I ran across pictures from the last game of 2015, it was perfect.
The last game of the season is of course Mascot Day, so while the mascots were out in the outfield doing mascot things (I think last year was a dance competition, which was at times awkward to watch), the rookies in the bullpen were greeting the position players stretching in right field on their way to left center; and of course it was Sunday, so Sunday whites for everyone.
Our starter was Vidal Nuno. Nuno leans in for the signs, while an Oakland A mercilessly taunts a dejected Kyle Seager. Or maybe they’re just talking about how each other’s kids are, I don’t know. Whatever the case, Nuno pitched 6 innings that game, allowing 6 hits and 2 runs, one of which was a dinger. He struck out 4. The Mariners won, 3-2; I like ending the season on an up note.
Man, am I gonna miss this guy this year. It really doesn’t help that he went to Texas. Why couldn’t it have been Baltimore or Detroit? In any case, I wish him well. We wish you were here, ya big jerk. Furbush is literally falling apart without you.
Generally speaking, I’ve taken this photo probably more than I should. Especially when the sky is blue like this and it’s warm out. I could just sit down in the lower deck and stare at the sky and watch batting practice or even groundskeepers doing their thing for literally hours. The smell of ballpark food and the crisp sea air…purely Seattle.
I just got a phone alert that says Mike Zunino has just been optioned to Tacoma. That kid hit a triple yesterday, and I wish I could have seen it. Maybe when the season starts, he’ll do it again. Maybe I’ll win the lottery. You never know. Enjoy your Friday, everyone!
