In addition, officers said 15 other businesses were inspected, and six citations were issued for ordinance violations.
“Since taking office in 2022, the City Council and I made it our top priority to eradicate illicit activities in massage parlors and put an end to human trafficking in the City of Roswell,” Roswell Mayor Kurt Wilson said. “The safety and protection of our residents is a solemn duty. To me, there is no more important compact for a City with its residents than the compact of public safety and protecting those who cannot defend themselves.”
Why is this happening?
For months, Mayor Kurt Wilson said the city worked on the amendments alongside licensed, legitimate massage therapists to ensure the changes wouldn't hurt businesses but add protections.
This move is part of the city's ongoing efforts to combat crime, particularly following the uncovering of human trafficking and prostitution in several establishments in September.

ROSWELL, Ga. — Roswell Police have shut down nine more massage parlors following tighter regulations on these businesses passed by Roswell City Council last week.
Sometimes, police departments put surveillance cameras in massage clinics as part of an undercover investigation. However, the authorities may run into issues when they try to actually use this evidence in court, as judges may throw it out to protect innocent people who were caught on camera.
You have the same right to choose the gender of your massage therapist as the massage therapist has to choose whether or not to take you on as a client. Some people prefer a male M.T., some prefer a female M.T., but most just want someone who knows what they're doing.
Professionals don't expect to treat only one type of body. It's their job to make sure every client is satisfied and it's also their job to help you find out what is the best possible treatment to any problem you could be facing. Massage therapy cares only for you, without any kind of prejudices.
Officers express concern that BWCs could be used to invade their personal privacy or that recordings will be used (or maliciously abused) by supervisors or others intent on unfairly analyzing officer conduct.
Signs to help recognize grooming and/or trafficking include: Regular absences from school, work, and other activities. Being dishonest or secretive about what they are doing and with whom.
The potential victim(s): » Lacks freedom of movement or is constantly monitored by someone. » Avoids eye contact and interaction with others. » Has no control over or possession of money or ID. » Defers to someone else to talk for them or appear to be coached on what to say.
The therapist makes off-color jokes or hints at sexual things. The therapist asks you questions about your intimate relationships or tells you about theirs. The therapist comments on your attractiveness when it is not in the context of massage.
